I WAS ASKED BY AL HEWITT SALES MANAGER FOR FRANK KENT CADILLAC IF I WOULD SPEND 90 DAYS ON THEIR STAFF TEACHING AFTER MARKET RESTYLING OF A CADILLAC AS I DID SUCCESSFULLY IN CALIFORNIA. FRANK KENT, LIKE LONE STAR, WAS CADILLAC EXCLUSIVE AND FORMER DISTRIBUTORS OF CADILLACS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS BUT WERE ABOLISHED BY LAW IN 1964 BECAUSE OF ANTI TRUST.
WHILE RESTYLING THEIR HARDEST MOVING AGED NEW CAR INVENTORY, FREDRICKA ANKLEY, RETIRED SCHOOL TEACHER AND DAUGHTER OF MY VALUED FRIEND, FELIX ANKLEY, ALERTED ME THAT THIS FLEETWOOD WAS FOR SALE CHEAP. SHE SAID, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO HALVES WITH ME ON THIS CAR. I SAID, GREAT IDEA.
THE 1989 #11 COTILLION WHITE CADILLAC FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM D’ELEGANCE WAS WELL MAINTAINED BUT NASTY INSIDE. FRANK KENT HAD SOME OF THE BEST DETAIL MEN I HAD EVER SEEN WORKING IN HORRIBLY HOT CONDITIONS WITH SWAMP COOLERS RUNNING. THEY DETAILED THE CAR AND IT LOOKED GORGEOUS. TIME CAME FOR ME TO GO BACK TO CALIFORNIA AND I LEFT THE FLEETWOOD IN FREDDIE’S CAPABLE HANDS. SHE DROVE IT TO SAN ANTONIO TO VISIT FRIENDS. THEY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE CAR.
SHE SAID, LET’S SELL IT AND SPLIT THE PROFIT. I NEED THE MONEY AND I THINK YOU COULD USE IT TOO. I TOLD HER, TO ME A DOLLAR ALWAYS LOOKED AS BIG AS A BED SHEET. TAKE THEIR MONEY. NICE WORK! SHE AND HER DAD OWNED THE BOSWELL FLOWER SHOPS IN FORT WORTH AND WERE VERY CLOSE TO WENDY KENT WHO I GOT TO MEET ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS . . . ALL GREAT FORT WORTH FOLKS.
