A LOCAL PERRYSBURG BUSINESSMAN LOOKED ME UP AND SAID, ALEX, I UNDERSTAND YOU ARE THE CADILLAC MAN. I’VE BEEN TRYING TO SELL MY 1967 ELDORADO FOR ALMOST A YEAR WITH NO SUCCESS. HE SAID, CAN YOU HELP ME. I SAID, DO YOU HAVE THE CAR WITH YOU? HE SAID, I DO. WE MET NEAR DAN SHRODERS MEN’S WEAR NOT FAR FROM COMMODORE PERRY’S STATUE. I SAID, WELL IT IS STAND UP CAR. LET ME MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU. WHAT YOU DO WANT FOR THE CAR RIGHT NOW KEEPING IN MIND I AM GOING TO RESELL IT AFTER I GO THROUGH IT AND ADVERTISE IT AND TRY TO MAKE A FEW BONES? HIS INITIAL FIGURE WAS NOT REALISTIC FOR ME. I COUNTERED AND SAID, HERE’S ANOTHER FIGURE, MY FIRST AND LAST AND IF YOU DECLINE IT, IT WON’T HURT MY FEELINGS. I WILL TRY AND HELP YOU. HE SAID, I AM DONE. GIVE ME THE MONEY.
I GAVE THE FIRST YEAR FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CADILLAC ELDORADO THE BELOFF TOUCH WITH THE ACCURATE CADILLAC MERCHANDISING PHILOSOPHY AND PRESENTATIONS IN A NATIONAL ADVERTISEMENT AND SOLD THE CAR. I DIDN’T GET RICH, BUT I WAS HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. I MADE A GOOD FRIEND OF A WELL RESPECTED LOCAL BUSINESSMAN. THERE WAS NOT A CONVERTIBLE IN THE NEW GENERATION ELDORADO LINE UNTIL 1971.
