WHAT YOU SEE IS A 1957 (MY FAVORITE YEAR) CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE IN ORIGINAL BEIGE LACQUER PAINT. SOMEONE APPROACHED ME AND SAID, YOU ARE THE CADILLAC MAN. I KNOW WHERE THERE IS A CADILLAC IN A RAVINE THAT YOU CAN BARELY SEE BECAUSE THE WEEDS HAVE GROWN OVER IT. ARE YOU INTERESTED?
THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD SOME PHYSICAL ISSUES AND COULDN’T CONTROL THE CAR ROLLING DOWN THIS STEEP EMBANKMENT NEAR HIS HOME AND IT WAS WRECKED. THE CAR RAN POORLY AND SUFFERED FROM NEGLECT. HE WAS SO ANGRY AT THAT CAR, HE JUST LEFT IT DOWN THERE FOR YEARS. HE SAID, IF YOU WANT IT, YOU CAN HAVE IT CHEAP, BUT YOU HAVE TO GO GET IT OUT OF THERE. I SAID, GET THE TITLE AND I WILL GIVE YOU A CHECK.
WHEN I WENT DOWN AND FINALLY GOT TO THE CAR, IT WAS A MESS. ALL SORTS OF CRITTERS HAD MADE HOMES IN THE CAR. THE ONE REDEEMING THING ABOUT THIS COUPE DEVILLE WAS IT HAD SEAT COVERS FRONT AND BACK. UNDERNEATH THE SEAT COVERS WAS A SHOCKINGLY ABSOLUTELY PERFECT UNBLEMISHED BEIGE LEATHER AND STRIKING BROCADE MATCHING CLOTH SEATS! THE SEATS ALONE WERE WORTH MORE THAN SOME FUNCTION 1957 COUPES.
I HAD MY WRECKER FRIEND CAREFULLY HAUL IT OUT OF THERE AND PUT IT IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WENT TO WORK ON BEAUTY TREATING THE EXTERIOR. I QUICKLY SOLD THE INTERIOR TO A COLLECTOR IN CALIFORNIA AND SOLD THE REMAINING BODY TO ANOTHER COLLECTOR IN INDIANAPOLIS. HAPPY DAYS ALL AROUND!
