The Car History of Alex Beloff III

MY 1967 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM WAS ABSOLUTELY FIRST CABIN IN A LUXURY CAR.  I PURCHASED IT FROM A PRE-LOVED OWNER BECAUSE MY ONE YEAR OLD AND FIVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS LOVED TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT AND READ OR DRAW IN THEIR COLORING BOOKS.  AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTO OF THE BACK SEAT, IT HAD FOLD DOWN WRITING DESKS THAT WERE ILLUMINATED WITH FOLD DOWN FOOT RESTS CARPETED TO MATCH THE CAR SECURED WITH CHROME BRACKETS.  THE GOLD BROCADE TRIM REFLECTED SOMETHING FROM ENGLISH ROYALTY.

I FOUND A NICE SET OF 1957 CADILLAC CHROME SABER SPOKE WHEELS.  MY RESEARCH REVEALED THEY WOULD BOLT RIGHT UP.  IT GAVE THE FLEETWOOD A UNIQUE CLASSY LONGER LOWER SPORTIER LOOK.  THE WHITE TOP SET IT OFF WITH THE FAINTLY VIEWED GOLD PAINT HALO TOP TREATMENT.  I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY OF YOU CAN REMEMBER 1972.  THAT’S MY BABY SITTING ON THE DECK LID OF MY CADILLAC.  THEY GROW UP VERY FAST, DON’T THEY.

THE ONLY HOKEY BRAIN DEAD OPTION ON THE WHOLE CAR WAS THE VISIBLE TRAILER HITCH THAT SOME FINE TECHNICIAN DRILLED HOLES RIGHT THROUGH THE BUMPER.  I DIDN’T REMOVE IT.  WHEN I BECAME USED CAR MANAGER IN 1975 AT WAGNER CADILLAC IN RICHMOND INDIANA, I SOLD THE CAR REPLACING IT WITH A GORGEOUS 1973 BROUGHAM D’ELEGANCE.

I DEVELOPED A LONG TIME OFFICIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH U.S. SENATOR BIRCH BAYH WHO ALSO BECAME A GOOD PERSONAL FRIEND.  I HELPED SENATOR BAYH AS A FUND RAISER AND SUPPORTER FOR NEW VOTERS.  HE HAD A VERY GOOD TIME AT THE CIRCUS CITY PARADE AND THE LITTLE MIST THAT FELL DIDN’T STOP HIM FROM SITTING ON THE PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW TO WAVE AT ALL THE PEOPLE ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE.

I HAD BEEN A STRONG DEMOCRAT MAINTAINING THE SAME RELATIONSHIP WITH 34 YEAR U.S. CONGRESSMAN DELBERT L. LATA, WOOD COUNTY OHIO, WHO WOULD LATER BE MY GUEST SPEAKER WHEN I WAS THE FIRST YEAR CHARTER PRESIDENT OF THE PERRYSBURG OHIO ROTARY CLUB.

THIS FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM WAS GREAT IN THE CIRCUS CITY PARADES AND WAS AN ATTENTION GETTER.
