YOU WILL NOTICE IN BOTH PHOTOGRAPHS THAT MARVELOUS DUAL EXHAUST SMOKE (HOT GAS VAPORS) COMING FROM TWIN FACTORY PIPES. SADLY THOUGH THE 8 LUGS WERE HISTORY PRIMARILY BECAUSE OF DISC BRAKES UP FRONT WHICH ADMITTEDLY WAS A VAST IMPROVEMENT OVER THE 8 LUG 15″ ALUMINUM WHEELS AND DRUMS.
THIS WAS ALSO THE FIRST YEAR FOR THE ENDURA FRONT NOSE BUMPER BODY COLORED TO MATCH THE CAR. A DERIVATIVE OF THE NEW 1968 GTO THAT PIONEERED THE ENDURA BUMPER. THOSE OF YOU WHO CAN REMEMBER THE TV ADS WERE IMPRESSIVE WITH A WELL DRESSED GENTLEMAN WHACKING THE FRONT GTO BUMPER WITH A CROWBAR OR A SLEDGEHAMMER AND THROWING IT ON THE PAVEMENT LEAVING NO VISIBLE DAMAGE.
WELL THE 1969 BONNEVILLE WAS A WHOLE NEW CAR AND THE RALLY TWO WHEELS WERE GREAT AND A STYLE THAT WOULD REMAIN ON THE BIG PONTIACS FOR MANY YEARS. WE HAVE THEM ON OUR 1975 PONTIAC GRANDVILLE BROUGHAM CONVERTIBLE AFFECTIONATELY CALLED CLAIRE.
IT WAS BRUTALLY QUICK, HANDLED LIKE A DREAM, WAS ABSOLUTE COMFORT FOR SIX ADULTS AND TRUCK CAPACITY FOR FOUR SETS OF GOLF CLUBS. VERY FITTING SINCE THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TAKEN AT THE PLEASANT RUN GOLF COURSE BY MY INDIANAPOLIS HOME. THE ALL NEW 1969 PONTIAC BONNEVILLES WERE INITIALLY SOLD OUT. MANY OF MY OWNERS, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS KNEW I HAD ONE. THEY TOOK IT OFF MY HANDS QUICKLY. THE PERSON WHO BOUGHT IT SAID HE WAS ATTRACTED TO THE WHITE TOP. IT LOOKED LIKE A CONVERTIBLE WITHOUT THE LEAKS, SQUEAKS, RATTLES AND WIND NOISE THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH MOST RAG TOPS.
